America Heart Association

The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Founded by six cardiologists in 1924, the organization now includes more than 22.5 million volunteers and supporters. They fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies, and provide critical tools and information to save and improve lives.

The AAH has a tremendous amount of patient information on their website including interactive tools, educational materials, and other resources.  The topics covered include a wide array of cardiovascular diseases.  Additionally the association puts patients in contact with local community support.

CardioSmart

CardioSmart, is the patient education and empowerment initiative brought to you by the American College of Cardiology. Their mission is to help individuals prevent, treat and manage cardiovascular disease.

Please take full advantage of the many features on CardioSmart.org by first creating a profile and customizing your experience. Don’t forget to download the medication reminder app and to sign up for their monthly eNewsletter. You can also search for CardioSmart events in your community under News and Events.

They are committed to providing visitors to the site with accurate, un-biased information in an advertising-free environment.

Heart Failure Society of America

The Heart Failure Society of America has prepared a series of educational modules designed to help patients learn to live successfully with heart failure. The advice in the modules can help heart failure patients feel better, stay out of the hospital and live longer.

The modules are self-contained and written in easy to understand language. Each module provides practical information on a specific topic that is useful to both patients and their families. Each module also includes questions should ask their doctors or nurses. Patients should actively work with their health care providers to achieve the best outcomes.

The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervensions

The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervensions (SCAI) mission is to promote excellence in invasive and interventional cardiovascular care. The Society achieves this mission through physician education and the advancement of quality standards, as well as programs for patients, their families and the public. Put simply, SCAI believes that educated patients lead to better care, and has committed to a number of initiatives that increase patient and public awareness of cardiovascular disease and treatment options.

We recommend all patient's watch "You and Your Stent" for patients who have undergone a coronary angioplasty procedure. The video is available on SCAI’s public education website, SecondsCount.org, and is provided as a resource for SCAI members and your other healthcare providers.
